NGSS in the Classroom Course
NIC: A Guide for Co-Conspirators
Designed to support districts as they transition to the Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS), this course is intended for an audience of K-12 teachers with a range of familiarity and comfort with NYSSLS. Teachers will gain a working familiarity with the standards, its structure, and its intended use. This one to three-day workshop is a beginning - an orientation to an ongoing process and discussion. My goal is to provide a common frame of reference, with examples, for a school district's continuing process.
Course Objectives
Participants will understand the origin and central dogma of NGSS
Participants will gain literacy in the three-dimensional learning model and phenomena-based learning
Participants will model and practice using Crosscutting Concepts, and Science and Engineering Practices
Participants will practice vertical discussion and problem solving within NYSSLS
Participants will evaluate inquiry-based assessments and design assessment solutions

NIC: A Guide for Co-Conspirators
Designed to support districts as they transition to the New York State Science Learning Standard (NYSSLS). The course is intended for an audience of K-5 teachers with a range of familiarity and comfort with NYSSLS. Teachers will interact with a phenomena/NYSSLS Disciplinary Core idea (DCI) pair as an example of how NYSSLS Standards are structured and progressive. This full day or half day workshop is a beginning - an example in an ongoing process and discussion. My goal is to provide a common frame of reference, with examples, for a school district's continuing process. NGSS in the Classroom - Beginning Fundamentals is designed to develop a common perspective from which teachers can view their practice. Through this examination, a collaborative discussion begins.
Course Objectives

Participants will learn how Performance Expectations progress across grade levels
Participants will understand how expectations at their grade level are connected to other grade-level performance expectations

NIC: A Guide for Co-Conspirators
NGSS/NYSSLS in the Classroom ONLINE - Across the Curriculum is an online workshop designed to support districts transitioning to the New York State Science Learning Standard (NYSSLS). This course is highly variable, depending on the district's needs. From one to two days, NYSSLS Across the curriculum can encompass various on-site and off-site learning objectives. Intended for the core, encore, and teaching support staff NYSSLS Across the Curriculum gives all science and non-science educators the opportunity for hands-on experience with NYSSLS. Extraordinarily flexible and custom-made, NYSSLS in the Classroom - NYSSLS Across the Curriculum answers the question, "What is the New York State Science Learning Standard, and how can it help me with science education in my classroom?"
